Advantage Venture Capital Ltd

Minimum award value - £20 million
Maximum award value - £100 million

Eligibility

Advantage Capital invests only in UK mid market special situation private equity transactions. The financial criteria are:
• The target company's sales are likely to fall between £20m and £100m
• Total deal value up to £30m
•The target is likely to be, but is not necessarily, generating profits
Advantage Capital's non-financial criteria are much more important. Advantage Capital only invests in "difficult deals of real merit ® ". The purpose of this strategy is to enable Advantage Capital to buy well – if Advantage Capital cannot acquire a high quality business well, it will not buy at all. This makes Advantage Capital a low volume, highly selective private equity investor.

Description

Advantage Capital is a private equity fund manager with a current investor base of 30+, 95% of whom are high net worth or ultra high net worth individuals. The cornerstone investor in Advantage Capital's first fund is Lloyds TSB Group. The cornerstone investor in both Advantage Capital Partners 2 and Advantage Capital Partners 3 is the Adair family, led by Robert Adair, founder and executive chairman of both Melrose Resources PLC and Terrace Hill Group PLC. Other Advanatge Capital fund investors comprise other self made entrepreneurs, professional advisers and private equity practitioners.

Notes

Advantage Capital’s pilot fund, Advantage Capital Partners 1, was closed in 2002 and is now fully invested. The second fund, Advantage Capital Partners 2, was closed in 2007. Fund raising for the firm's third fund, Advantage Capital Partners 3, was accelerated in order to increase the firm's investment firepower, since the current harsh climate plays to Advantage Capital's strategy of seeking to buy high quality businesses well. A first close of Advantage Capital's third fund occurred in October 2008 and it remains open to new investors.
